The Only DHHS-Preferred PI for Initial Combination Therapy
The United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is a government agency designed to protect the well being of the American people. Among its many divisions are the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
The DHHS periodically establishes guidelines for the treatment of various diseases, including HIV. These guidelines, which were developed by a panel of experts including physicians and advocates, give healthcare providers recommendations about the goals of HIV therapy, when to begin treatment, and what types of treatment are available.
According to these guidelines, the DHHS-preferred PI regimen is: KALETRA (lopinavir/ritonavir) + Retrovir (zidovudine) + [Epivir (lamivudine) or Emtriva
(emtricitabine)]
